Terms of service
The agreement for using our website and software, including PulpitCue licences.
Last updated 20 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and BereanByte Ltd ("BereanByte", "we", "us"), a company in the United Kingdom. They apply to this website, to PulpitCue and to any other BereanByte product sold through this site. By buying, downloading or using them you agree to these terms. If you accept them for a church or organisation, you confirm you can bind it.
1. Your account
Accounts are created when you buy. Keep your sign-in email secure and your licence key private. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has your key.
2. Free trial and free version
New computers get a 10-day trial of every feature. (Until a computer has been online once, the trial may be shorter while it is confirmed with our server.) After the trial PulpitCue keeps working in a free version with fewer features and a small watermark on audience screens. We may change what the free version includes for new releases, but we will not delete your own data.
3. Licence
When you buy a licence and pay for it, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use PulpitCue on as many computers as you have bought seats, for your own church or organisation's use.
You may not: copy or share your licence key beyond your organisation; reverse engineer, decompile or tamper with the software or its licence checks (except where the law lets you); rent, resell or sublicense it; or use it to build a competing product. The software and its names remain ours (or our licensors').
4. Seats, moving them and licence checks
- A seat is one computer. You may free a seat and give it to another computer, up to a limit that renews on a rolling 30-day basis. The limit is enough to replace a computer that breaks, not to share one seat among many. If you reach it, contact us.
- PulpitCue works offline between checks. A subscription computer needs to reach our server about every 14 days (with 7 more days of warning), and a lifetime computer about every 30 days (with 30 more). If it cannot, it returns to the free version until it next connects. Nothing is deleted.
- A computer that stops checking in frees its seat after its time runs out.
5. Plans, prices and payment
- Prices are shown in US dollars at checkout and are charged by Stripe. Taxes may be added where required.
- Monthly and yearly plans renew automatically until you cancel. A plan includes one computer; extra computers are charged as shown at checkout. You can cancel, or change the number of computers, in the billing portal from your account. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep the paid period, plus a 7-day grace.
- Lifetime licences are paid once per seat. They include all non-cloud updates we release for PulpitCue, including UI enhancements, fixes and new features that run locally, with no first-year cutoff. Cloud-based services are not included and may require a separate plan. This does not promise that any particular future feature or update will be released.
- If we change a subscription's price, we will tell you before the next renewal and you may cancel instead.
- If a payment fails or is reversed, we may suspend the licence until it is resolved.
6. Refunds
Our refund policy forms part of these terms.
7. Your content and your responsibilities
Everything you put into PulpitCue (songs, slides, pictures, videos, notes, recordings) stays yours and stays on your computer. You are responsible for having the right to use it, including the lyrics, Bible translations, music, fonts and media you display, record or broadcast, and for any recording, consent or copyright rules where you live. PulpitCue's speech and Scripture matching is automated and can make mistakes, so check what is shown before it goes on air.
8. Updates, support and changes
We release updates and fixes and may change, add or retire features. We provide guides and reasonable support by email; we do not promise a particular response time unless we agree one in writing. We may discontinue a product with reasonable notice. If we do and you have a prepaid period that cannot be used, we will refund the unused part.
9. Bespoke work
Custom software or services are covered by a separate written agreement. Where there is none, these terms do not create a duty to build anything.
10. Suspension and ending
You may stop using BereanByte at any time. We may suspend or withdraw a licence if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms (for example by sharing a key widely or tampering with the licence checks), or to comply with the law. Where possible we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix it. After a withdrawal the software returns to the free version. Sections that by nature should survive (such as 3, 11, 12 and 13) continue after the agreement ends.
11. Our promises and their limits
We take care to provide dependable software, but it is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose, and we exclude all implied warranties.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit, lost data, or loss from a service or broadcast that goes wrong. Our total liability to you for anything connected with BereanByte is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. If you are a consumer, you keep the rights the law gives you that cannot be waived.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For changes that matter we will give notice by email or on this site before they apply to you. Using BereanByte after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, you may cancel and ask for a refund of the unused part of any prepaid period.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the part of the United Kingdom where BereanByte Ltd is registered (England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland), and the courts there have jurisdiction, unless you are a consumer with a legal right to use the courts where you live. Please contact us first at hello@bereanbyte.com so we can try to put things right.
