PulpitCue
Install and security
What to check before you install, what to expect on first launch and why PulpitCue asks for each permission.
Verify your download
Every release on the download page lists its version, platform and a SHA-256 checksum. To confirm the file you downloaded is the file we published:
- Mac: open Terminal and run
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/<installer name> - Windows: open PowerShell and run
Get-FileHash $HOME\Downloads\<installer name> -Algorithm SHA256
The result must match the checksum on the download page exactly. If it does not, delete the file and email hello@bereanbyte.com.
Security warnings on first launch
Our installers are not yet signed with an Apple Developer ID or a Windows code-signing certificate. Until they are, your computer may warn that the app is from an unidentified developer:
- macOS may say it cannot verify the app. Follow the steps in the getting started guide to open it anyway.
- Windows may show Microsoft SmartScreen. Choose More info, then Run anyway.
Only do this for a file you downloaded from this website and whose checksum you have checked. We are working on signing and notarisation, and will update this page when it is in place.
Permissions PulpitCue asks for
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Microphone | To hear the sermon, write the live transcript and find Scripture. Audio is processed on your computer and is not uploaded. |
| Local network | To show the read-only Scripture output to OBS and to screens on your church network, and to send outputs as NDI sources on Mac. |
| Incoming connections (firewall) | So other computers on the same network can load the output. They can see only what is on screen, never the transcript or the controls. |
| Internet | To download speech and Bible data on first setup, check for updates and confirm your licence. |
What stays on your computer
Speech, Bible matching, your songs, slides and settings stay on your computer. Audio is saved only if you turn recording on, and then it stays on your computer. Our privacy policy lists exactly what we do receive.
Before each Sunday
We recommend a test run on the computer you will use in the service, including the microphone input and the outputs you plan to show, well before the day.
