A tour of the window

Where everything is: the top bar, the workspaces, Program and the live tools.

PulpitCue has one window with the same three parts everywhere. Once you know them, every workspace feels familiar.

The top bar

The PulpitCue top bar: workspace tabs, Start button, audio input, level and record buttons, one switch per screen, status and settings. The top bar while captions run in demo mode.

  • Workspace tabs. Bible, Sermon, Songs, Media and Service. Switch with ⌘1 to ⌘5 (Alt+1 to Alt+5 on Windows).
  • The capture dock. Everything about listening, in one place:
    • Start / Stop begins and ends captions. Each Start is a new saved sermon.
    • The audio input. A microphone or mixer, or Browser tab audio (captions for audio playing in another Chrome or Edge tab). The live level runs along the bottom edge, with a white mark where audio starts to count as speech.
    • Level (the small icon beside the input) boosts a quiet input and sets the pick-up level.
    • Rec is a ring when off and a red REC while it records the sermon audio. Off by default.
  • Screens. One small switch per output (lower third, main screen, stage monitor…) to show or hide that whole screen.
  • Status (Standby, Loading model, Live) and Settings (the gear) and Help (?). The connection is only mentioned when something is wrong, for example View only or Disconnected.

View only

Only one PulpitCue window at a time can control captions. A second window on the same computer stays view only and keeps updating. Close the controlling window to take control here.

The three columns

Below the top bar, the window is split into a library on the left, the workspace in the middle, and Program plus Live on the right. On a 1280-pixel laptop all three stay side by side.

Program: what the audience sees

The right-hand Program panel is a live preview of one screen (choose which from the menu above it), with the buttons that clear it. It only lists the layers that are on screen: Slide, Media, Background, Timer, Announce, Props and Message. Click a layer to clear just that one, or Clear all to clear everything. Copy link and Open on screen are here too. See Live tools.

Live: timers, messages and more

Under Program, the Live panel has tabs for Timer, Message, Stage, Props and Announce. These are the things you use around the main content: a service countdown, a nursery call, a message to the preacher, or the announcement loop.

The bottom bar

A thin bar at the bottom always shows what is on screen, with previous, clear and next buttons, and the media bin above it. On the right it reminds you of the main keys: ⌘1–5 for workspaces, Space to go and / to search. Hover the keyboard icon for the keys that suit the workspace you are in.

The media bin

A drawer above the bottom bar that holds backgrounds, with tabs for Videos, Image backgrounds, Logos, Lower thirds and From presentations. It is closed until you open it so the workspace keeps its height. See The media bin and backgrounds.

Settings and help

The gear opens Settings: Hands-free, Cues, Remote control, Memory & speed, Backup & sharing, Licence & plans, About & storage and a feature guide. The ? opens the setup guide again. See Settings, memory and backups.
